  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2-3 black peppercorns,
  • 1 black cardamom,
  • 1 inch piece of cinnamon
  • Whole garam masala – 2 cloves,
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 small green cardamons,
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • salt as required
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup of chopped mix vegetables – I have used sliced capsicum, tomatoes and chopped french beans and peas.
  • 1 tsp shahjeera


  1. Firstly clean and soak the rice in two cups of water for 20-30 minutes.In the microwave cooker, put the ghee, add the whole garam masala and microwave on full power for 30 seconds or 1 minute.Now add the sliced onions, shahjeera and microwave again on full power for 2 minutes.Then add the all the veggies
  2. Sprinkle some water on them and microwave for 5 minutes.Now check to see if the vegetables are half cooked
  3. If not, then you can microwave for a few more minutes.Add the soaked rice along with its water
  4. Add salt and microwave on full power for 10-12 minutes till the rice is cooked.Serve veg pulao hot with plain yoghurt, onion tomato raita, papad, onion salad and lime or mango pickle.
